Hyper Pyxel is a pixel paint program that draws inspiration from the paint programs that were popular on the Commodore Amiga home computer. These were called Deluxe Paint and Brilliance. Hyper Pyxel does not try to emulate them, but tries to create a similar (but not same) painting experience based on these type of 16 bit pixel paint programs. Why? So much is possible with the likes of Photoshop, so why create another paint program?

Below are the 3 main reasons Hyper Pyxel was created.

  1. Simple & fun!! The paint programs of old, were so simple to use that anyone could start being creative making images on the computer in no time. The new ones are much more power full, but also so full packed of features, it’s too much of a hassle if you just want to paint something quickly and not want to learn a complex application just to do that.
  2. Browser. I wanted something useful, that would not need to be recompiled for each new version of Windows, Linux, Mac or Android. I wanted something that could be used on these 3 main platforms, without a lot of hassle maintaining it 3 or 4 times over. So I build it right into the Chromium browser. (Only the Chrome browser is supported, other browser are not compatible, and Microsoft Edge is actually to slow to execute the code, I might fix that 🙂 )
  3. Bucket-list. Making a pixel paint program was on my bucket list. (Simple as that 🙂 ) Check!
